[Raylan took advantage of having several hours to bring his hotel room back into something resembling tidiness, as well as taking a shower and grabbing a nap - Sleep wasn't something anyone got a lot of around Malcolm Whitly, but he'd long learned how to live and work on smaller amounts of sleep.

Dressed but with his button up open and no shoes on his feet, Raylan answered the door with a pull of a smile.] Managed to make it one piece I see. C'mon in. [ He shut the door behind him as he continued.] Flight okay?

[They'd find their rhythm.

Raylan winced.] Kansas. Not much else out there besides farms and trailer parks. If we are terribly unlucky, something will happen up at Trixie's, and you can add Kentucky to the list. They don't like lawman, but I'm a particular pain in their ass.

You get your guy?

[ He wasn't idle, picking up his beer as he scanned perspective areas before looking towards the drive, and catching the predicted upkicking of dust.

There was Bob. They had a good minute of silence to enjoy, by his estimation.]

[abrightboy]

Yeah, I talked him into releasing his hostage and coming out of the trailer.

[He heard the engine and turned to see the dust cloud coming. He gestured towards it and guessed.] Bob?

[He didn't consider that even in 'casual clothes' he did not look like he belonged here.]

Bob is played by Patton Oswald

Bob.

[Bob Sweeney was a short man, round in the just the right way to make it seem like his pants were held up only by the grace of god and the frequent tugs of his belt. His pinto was rust orange, painted, but well faded over it's many years of use. Bob called out the window- ]

Well Hey Raylan!

Hi Bob, [Raylan returned, calmly patient and oddly a little fond in his tone, free hand's thumb finding the back edge of his back pocket as Bob turned off the car and walked towards them, eyeing Malcolm a little. It was clear he thought the man fancy, his chin lifted a little, breath pulling in as Bob tried his very best to be just as cool as Raylan.]

I didn't expect to see you down here - wasn't you supposed to be gone for another two weeks?

[Raylan smirked and half shrugged.] Art kicked me outta the office. Decided to come get some stuff done at the house.

Who's your friend? [Bob oozed Good Guy Friendliness and couldn't manage pretense if his life depended on it.] Constable Bob Sweeney, Harlan District, how do ya do, [Bob would have tipped his hat, if he had one but since he didn't, he couldn't leave it there and shuffled forward the few steps to stick a hand out.]

[Malcolm shook his hand.] Malcolm Bright. Nice to meet you, Constable.

[He'd let Raylan take the lead on what he told the man about who Malcolm was to him. He didn't want to say anything that might cause an issue, however innocent it sounded to his own ears.]

He got kicked outta his office too.

Oh, he a Marshal like you?

NYPD. [The functioning details didn't really matter - Bob would see a badge and respect it, not that he didn't respect those that didn't have one, but there was an easy comradery to take there. Bob seemed pleased at the telling though and gave Malcolm a big smile and a nod.]

Raylan and I went to highschool together. The only one who supported me trying for this job, til I ran for it. [He shuffled again, muttering the next words just enough to be heard but plenty to convey he knew how much it undercut the desperate attempt to be a big strong cool guy.] Course I ran uncontested, b-but Raylan and I have been working cases down here, ain't we Raylan.

[Raylan smiled again, patient as ever and nodded. But there was no need for him to continue; Bob could also likely carry on a conversation with a wall, so long as it answered now and then.

His eyebrows lifted in that same dry interest as he waited for Bob to amble to his point.]

Speaking of Raylan, since you're down here, you mind helping me later with something? I gotta go sign off something at Boyd's bar and.. Well I know you and him used to dig together and... Well shit Raylan, he's less likely to put a gun in my face if you're there.

[Raylan dipped his head and glanced back at Malcolm before nodding at Bob.] Sure Bob. I'm guessin' you want to do that tonight.

Sooner rather than later if I can help it.

[Raylan nodded again.] I'll call you later, we can go out there.

[Bob lit up and nodded with far too much surety, like Raylan was going to take care of it all and really.. Well, he was.] I appreciate it Raylan, I really do.

[Raylan nodded again and stepped forward, clasping a hand on Bob's shoulder and gently steering him back towards his car.] I'm sorry I didn't let you know I was comin' back early but thanks for lettin' me know about Boyd. We'll get it taken care of.

[Being out here always made his accent a little heavier.]

[Malcolm followed Bob's rambling story with interest, nodding at the appropriate places.]

A pleasure meeting you. [Called out as Bob got back in the car. Once he was gone, Malcolm looked at Raylan.] Where are we going tonight?

[It took another full minute of small conversation, fully Bob driven as Raylan oh so gently stuffed him into his car and sent him on his way. Raylan sighed as he walked back up the way towards Malcolm, beer bottle still in his fingertips as he rubbed at his eyes. He just wanted a night off.]

I don't suppose I could convince you to stay here while I go, could I. [It wasn't even really a question.] Even on the threat that it's a bar with a domestic terrorist gun thug and his two boys?

You don't have to sell it, Raylan, I already want to go.

[Domestic terrorist gun thug family? Could he make it sound any more appealing?]

Have you dealt with them before? I mean, one of them obviously. Bob said you 'dug' with him. Is he the dad or one of the boys?

[tinstar]

[There was no helping the almost helpless scoff of resignation as his hand dropped and he chuckled.]

I've known the Crowders for a long time. Their daddy Bo Crowder worked real hard to keep the feud with Arlo alive, and did a good job. When I was 19, Boyd and I ended up digging coal together before I left for the Marshal's service. Actually ended up putting Boyd's brother, Bowman away for a few years.. 'For his wife shot him over the dinner table and ended the beatings.

Now Boyd's running a bar he took over from some pimp, I think - I don't bother to pay attention to the real estate of the area. His boys aren't his sons, just the muscle that hangs with him.

Yeah. 'Dealt with them', [Raylan huffed before taking a long draft from his beer.] Harlan's got a population of some 400. If I don't know all of them, I know someone who does. Probably their mama.

[abrightboy]

[Malcolm looked a little excited.]

Wait, wait, was Bowman the guy whose wife shot him for complaining about fried chicken?

[tinstar]

[Raylan still couldn't stop himself from being proud of Ava or what Bowman had rightfully earned.]

One in the same. She eventually turned CI for the Marshal's Service on the case we're working now on Boyd. We've gotta catch him in the act. He gets one fraction inch of space, and he- [Raylan whistled lowly as his hand snaked out, imitating exactly what Boyd did.]

Boyd came after her the night she got released from holding, ten days afterwards. Couple days after I first got reassigned here. She had a mind to try and get me over for dinner- [ Fried chicken was Raylan's favorite, hands down. ] -Boyd had her call me anyway. [He sighed, pushing at the stone pavement with his boot toe for a second before squinting a little under the brim of his hat at Malcolm.]

She didn't say she had a gun to her head but she didn't sound right. So I go over-[His head bobbed over in direction that didn't actually direct]- and Boyd's sitting at her table. Tells me to put down my shotgun and have a seat.

He wanted to draw- his gun unholstered, on the table, mine on my hip. Which would have been fine, if Ava had't come back in with that deer rifle. Fully intended to kill a second Crowder inside 10 days, had it come to it.

[abrightboy]

[Malcolm's expression sobered.]

If he's still alive, does that mean she's dead?

[tinstar]

They're both alive, [Raylan assured.] Boyd reached for his gun and I shot him in the chest. Dead center. [More specifically, it wasn't a shot to the heart. With the training Malcolm's already had, Raylan didn't expect that to get past him.]

[abrightboy]

Dead centre? Did you miss on purpose?

[tinstar]

Even experts don't hit the bullseye one hundred percent of the time. [He said it before adjusting his hat and setting his beer back down. He was fully lying. Raylan didn't miss unless he meant to.]

You ready to work those yoga toned arms?

[abrightboy]

[Malcolm didn't really believe it, either. He'd seen Raylan shoot a man in the eyeball.

He glanced down at his arms and huffed a laugh.]

I also use the stairs for pull-ups.

[He gestured to the tub.]

We're using them for this?

[tinstar]

Shame I missed that part of your morning routine, [ he replied with a smirk.]

For now. Working out here means you're going to be using them a lot. Let's set it around back of the house, under the trees. If nothing else, it'll get it outta the way.

[abrightboy]

You deserved some rest. I tried to be quiet.

[Malcolm glanced along where that path would take them, then moved around the tub to grab his end.] Maybe you can make a fountain out of it.

[tinstar]

Either you succeeded or you wore me out. [He teased as he moved around to his end of the tub and counted them to lifting. Since he knew the path better, he was happy to take the backwards walking end.]

Mind that we don't hit the gravestones or the birdbath on the way, [ he grunted as they shuffled along. Once they got back to where they were going, he stopped them with a 'Right here' and set down his side with a deep breath and a brush of his hands.]

Do I need to find and install a pull up bar for one of the doorways while you're here or do you think those guns can handle a few day's rest?

[abrightboy]

I'll do push-ups. I wouldn't want to be responsible for any more holes in your walls. [Said with a laugh.]

How much cleaning up do we have to do before we earn some shooting?

[tinstar]

Figure we get two sides of the house sprayed down, tires moved maybe, that kills a few hours and lets me kill a few beers. Unless you plan on helping with that too? Either that, or we go dig and plant a post, fixing the fence you'll end up using.

You know I only agreed to that because you've already been somewhat trained, right?

[abrightboy]

To fix a fence? [A beat.] Oh, the shooting. You don't train just anyone, huh? Is that why you won't take the teaching position they keep offering you?

[tinstar]

[ Raylan laughed.]

I taught at Glynco for a few years. That's how I know Art, we were instructors together. But I only draw my weapon if I intend to kill with it. Dusting off your rust is the exception. This isn't exactly a range.

[abrightboy]

...Do you not want to? I don't want to strong-arm you into doing something you'd rather not. I thought... [He waved it off.] We don't have to shoot. I can show you how to throw axes, if you want. Have you ever done that?

[tinstar]

[Raylan smirked sidelong at Malcolm.] I wouldn't have offered if I didn't want to. This won't be the biggest personal rule you've gotten me to break and I look forward to seeing how well you actually shoot after some time.

You know how to.. throw axes, [he asked as they came back to the walk way, bending down to pick up his beer again and take a drink.]
