Malcolm x Raylan: Cowboy Surprise

Art was suspicious right off the bat when Raylan took a week off with the express note that his phone would be Out Of Order til the next Monday, but the Chief Marshal wasn't going to look gift horses in the mouth. Not when it suggested he'd have a few days of peace, until Raylan caved to turning his phone back on again. Still, he watched the younger Marshal walk out of the office and promised himself to check into the state of Harlan within 3 days to make sure that the place wasn't on fire. The smoke would reach him before he called, he was sure.

But Art didn't have much to worry about - Raylan had no plans on staying in the state for his vacation, beyond one day spent closing up Arlo's and securing it the best way he could before getting on a plane to New York City. He wanted to surprise Malcolm - it'd been near two months since they'd last seen each other and frankly, Raylan was tired of missing him. They'd called and texted, stayed in a fairly consistent, if odd houred, touch but it wasn't the same.

Once he landed, Raylan rented a car and navigated his way towards Malcolm's apartment, stopping to grab a bouquet of flowers. It was.. Extra, but Raylan didn't want to show up empty handed, just in case. Thirty minutes later, Malcolm's door buzzer was being hit, like Raylan was here to deliver something. Well, he was, but that was half the fun.

He considered the broccoli a moment more, then stabbed a small piece with his fork and ate it. He managed a little more rice before the cookie was handed over.

"I've never tried to eat one of these," he confessed, unwrapping it. "What are they like?"

The fact that Malcolm was even attempting something outside his norm for eating was something to be celebrated, but Raylan didn't want to fawn over it and lose whatever progress Malcolm might have made by being too much like his mother

"Pretty bland and tasteless, you'll love it. But the fun part is the fortune inside." Raylan cracked his in half and pulled out the sheet of paper tucked inside.

"Your happiness is intertwined with your outlook on life.," he read, shaking his head slightly with a lift of his eyebrows as he tossed the paper on the island in front of them. "I don't know about that. I think I like your daily affirmations more, besides the fact they don't come with lucky numbers."

Malcolm laughed.

"But it's true. You said it yourself: it's all about having the right perspective," he teased. He cracked his cookie the way Raylan did and pulled out the piece of paper. "A faithful friend is a strong defence. I can't argue with that," he said cheerfully, setting the paper down. He took a nibble of the cookie. "It tastes like... slightly sweet cardboard. But it's lighter than I was expecting."

"Perspective only does so much," he countered well naturedly before grinning at Malcolm's fortune.

"They're a nice treat after some of the grease or heavy flavors that linger. Bit of fun after dinner. Are you going to eat anymore of anything?" The question came as Raylan started collecting and tossing his trash away - the purpose of it was only to know if he should start putting food up or not.

"Hm? Oh." He took a look at the various items on the table and considered it, then settled on "No," but did take another careful, experimental nibble of the cookie.

He watched Raylan for a moment.

"...Are you glad you came?"

Sure, they had a good day out, but he'd also gotten knee deep in the Whitly family.

"Net positive so far?"

With a nod, Raylan started pulling the cartons off the island and transferring them into the fridge. The question made him smile crookedly at Malcolm as he finished his task. "Yes. Very net positive."

That done, Raylan came back around to lean on the counter next to Malcolm with a reassuring lift of his features. "Even with your mother and sister and all of it. All I wanted was to be here with you and I am. What's not to be happy about?"

It wasn't chiding in the slightest, but Raylan was happy and saw no reason to keep it under his proverbial hat.

"Besides, there's no one out here who wants to kill me.. Yet. Less interruptions on my day to day life."

Malcolm slid off his stool, leaving the rest of the cookie sitting on the counter.

"There might be a person or two that wants to kill me, but they won't dare come around if you're here," he said, leaning up to press a lingering kiss to his mouth.

"Mm, that means that they have to know I'm here though," he answered after the kiss, keeping his face close to Malcolm's as an arm slid around him. Raylan wanted to protect Malcolm from all the terrible people and shit that came his way and while he knew that he couldn't stop all of them from eventually coming, knowing they were was a boon to them both.

"I'm sure it'll only take one example. Considering how many people are still talkin' about Tommy Bucks." Even the Mafia down there. "Just can't let shit go," he huffed with a crook of his lips.

Raylan leaned down to close the scant distance and kiss him again. "Mm, you're only giving me two signals. Cuddling on the couch and watching TV, or going to bed with no intention to sleep for at least a half hour," he hummed."

Malcolm smiled broadly. "Or both," he pointed out, sliding one hand up Raylan's neck and jaw to slide his fingers through the hair at Raylan's temple.

"And is that before or after tea," he muttered, brushing a teasing kiss across Malcolm's lips as his free hand came up to tug both their belts free, one after the other before his other hand started pulling Malcolm's shirt free from a less tight cinch.

Malcolm was far too overdressed for being in his own house.

Malcolm was almost always overdressed.

"Maybe tea will be in between," he suggested, reaching for Raylan's shirt, looking to tug it right off. "Like a tea break."

Curling himself to better help that shirt come off, Raylan grinned as he came back in to kiss him. The tie and Malcolm's many buttons were next and the kiss broke for non-air needs with a sound from the cowboy as he pushed Malcolm's shirt off.

"Coach always told us to make sure to hydrate," he said, voice rougher than before as he undid Malcolm's trousers. He wasn't rushing, but after the long day and little chance for indulgence, Raylan would be happier once they were naked and together and unbothered by anything other than each other.

Malcolm was more than happy for skin to meet skin after a day of barely stolen touches and he undid Raylan's pants, starting to push them over his hips while hungrily claiming a kiss before something occurred to him like a bucket of ice water and it broke as he attempted to look over Raylan's shoulder.

"Did we put the chain on the door?" he asked uncertainly.

He was not okay with the idea of his mother walking in while he was having sex.

Raylan had his pants half off before that bomb of a question and he looked over his shoulder with an equal rush of panic. Stepping out of his pants with a shifting of his feet, Raylan strode towards the door.

"Let's do that. Last thing I want is your mother seeing my ass." Or what he was doing to her son. Raylan slid the chainlock home and threw the bolts before curling a finger at Malcolm as he strode towards the bed and threw himself down on his back, hands reaching out for the man who had turned his world upside down.

He breathed relief and headed over to the bed when beckoned, making his way up Raylan's body starting with a kiss pressed just above his belly button. Once he was face to face with him, he reached up and threaded fingers through his hair before leaning down to claim his mouth in a kiss.

The kiss on his stomach made his stomach jump and tense with an uneven breath from above, hands sliding over and down Malcolm's shoulders and arms as he came up and Raylan groaned softly into the kiss and the way his senses were so sweetly invaded. His hands found Malcolm's legs, gently pulling and pushing until he was properly straddled, allowing him to enjoy the open strokes up and over Malcolm's everything.

Raylan felt stupid, a little, for how deeply he was into this, but he was and he couldn't get close enough to him, couldn't get enough of the paradise Malcolm offered him every day.

Raylan's touch felt like being worshipped. He'd never been so thoroughly appreciated in his life.

He didn't think it was stupid at all. It was divine, every touch. Who could fail to be into it?

He was easily encouraged to straddle him, propping himself up with a hand on either side of Raylan's head so he could kiss him with increasing hunger.

There was no hiding the raw feeling behind Raylan's touches or the way his fingertips randomly gripped him like he was going to vanish with a breath. His hands went from exploring to sliding down Malcolm's chest, fingers wrapping around and collecting their lengths together with a tight little groan from the back of his throat.

That made Malcolm's breath hitch and as he leaned in to kiss Raylan again, he arched his back up to give Raylan's hand more room to move.

With a faint lift of his hips and another breathy back of the throat noise, Raylan met the kiss and started stroking them with a loose, slow hand. He couldn't help but want to enjoy every second of it, feeling a bit like an addict with every hit he got.

Malcolm tipped his hips into each slow, easy stroke as it came, tilting his head to set kisses along Raylan's cheekbone and jaw and neck, then lifting his head to brush his nose against Raylan's before kissing him again. This was leisurely compared to their usual frantic need - likely a product of the large swathes of time they had to go without seeing each other - and Malcolm couldn't help wondering if there'd be more of this sweet comfort when they lived together all the time.

Tilting his head to accommodate and encourage Malcolm's trail of kisses, Raylan's off hand found it's way up to rest on his ribs as he started moving his hips in time, finding a delicious rhythm with Malcolm. When he came back to kiss him, Raylan met it hungrily, however lazy their rhythm was.

When it broke again, he husked out a few words. "Get the lube. I wanna feel you around me."

"Hm?" he said, dazed and breathless, followed quickly by "Oh. Yes." He had to climb off of Raylan and scramble over to the bedside table, finding it in the drawer before crawling back to the Marshal with the tube, setting it in his hand like a trophy. "Got it," he breathed, climbing back onto him and claiming a kiss for his reward.

Raylan slapped Malcolm's ass as he crawled off, grinning boldly as he came back and meeting the kiss as his off hand helped guide Malcolm's weight back over him. A hand moved up to slide across Malcolm's jaw and neck as his other arm laced around Malcolm's waist, pulling him into the kiss tightly and just for the sake of kissing him breathless.

When his lungs started to burn, he broke it and popped the cap on the lube bottle in one motion before sinking back into the bed. Once Malcolm sat up, Raylan squeezed some out into his hand and slicked himself down.

Malcolm was breathing heavily as he sat back, watching Raylan's hand raptly as he slicked himself. Malcolm reached over and swiped some from the end of the bottle, reaching back to leave a little slick on himself before climbing up and carefully lowering himself down onto Raylan, tipping his head back with a sigh.
