"Could've recorded it." He grins again. "Don't worry, I hear that in my head all the time, so you're adding anything that could be a problem. What're you drinking?"

"That's a whole different deal," he replies, grinning. Nodding at the glass, he continues. "Whiskey. Top shelf and that ones for you. I figure if I'm askin' you to trapse all the way down here to gloat, I might as well give you something to wet your whistle lest you strangle on it."

"That's just basic manners. Otherwise you hid the liquor. I'll even pretend that 'top shelf' means something to me, classy bastard that I am." He raises the glass to Raylan. "So, how'd you enjoy port?"

"I only hide liquor from folks I don't want to feel welcome." Many people would say that he's an asshole but he's a fair one and usually only the people he shot called him unmannered.

He shrugged with his face, a bob of his head, setting the glass down. "Got to rob some poachers, got to kill a dinosaur. Got to ride a dinosaur and stock a private cache of firepower. I heard you went the way of the Dino - Do you remember it at all?"

He half-shrugs, taking a sip of the whisky instead of just downing it. "Some parts. More sensation than memories, I suppose. A bit odd, but only around middle of the scale."

[tinstar]

"Flint went the same way. But he doesn't remember a thing." He bobs his head. "Interestin'. I didn't think overboardin' included species changes."

Fitz raises an eyebrow. "Don't you remember the last Breach?"

[tinstar]

"Collage? Yeah, sure." Innocent man still didn't get that Bargefolk were turned Fae - he'd only met humans as far as he knew and what he didn't know was Sweeney.

"Not everyone 'round here is human, are they. So that was a species change right off."

[tinstar]

"I-" Raylan's open mouth closed with a 'hm'. His head bobbed again.

"Okay. That's just as valid an argument as not. And I suppose rememberin' or not probably has somethin' to do with brains."

"Hell, after everything, I'm not sure I'm 100% human. Which might also play a part in remembering. Better than wandering through the jungle as a human."

[tinstar]

"Are you kiddin' me?" he asks with a little laugh. "I had a blast. Guns, whiskey and survival? Shit, I'm just sad I didn't find time to hit up the beach. What I wouldn't give for a port that had more of that."

He shook his head a little. "I need a vacation event. I think we all do. Something flush. Filled with a lake or somethin' that isn't infested with piranhas or man eating alligators or something." He lifts his chin a little with a pull of a smile. "Who cares about bein' a hundred percent human anyway."

"Most of that sounds awful. And the whiskey isn't location specific so it doesn't really count as making it sound any more pleasant." But he's not surprised that Raylan enjoyed himself.

"I wouldn't mind a nice vacation. A house next to that lake with a/c would be a start." He shrugs. "Xenophobes in the 50th century? Probably a lot of other times too, though that was my most recent direct encounter. Personally, I could do without the 'why it's not a hundred percent' but don't really care about the actual fact."

"It's better than kickin' heels around here waiting for the next disaster. At least there, I know what the deal is, how it's most likely to go. And whiskey makes everything more pleasant no matter where you find it." Some habits would never be broken.

"Knowin' the why won't change the situation so I won't argue with you on that. Can I ask the How then? Just.. too many times gettin' beamed across the universe or something?"

"Some of us aren't always waiting for the next disaster." That's what naps are for.

He shrugs. "It probably all started when an alien robot implanted this... thing in my great-great-grandfather."

[tinstar]

"Must be a nice way to live." He couldn't help but keep an eye on it. It felt, always, like his life depended on it.

Raylan's brow furrows a little as he refreshes their glasses.

"Excuse me?"

"It's a ball." When life is always a disaster right in the moment, he doesn't have energy to spare on what the next one will be.

Fitz smirks.

"What part of that could possibly be unclear?"

[tinstar]

"Well, 'thing' is pretty unclear, also - implanting a Thing your great great Granddaddy, shouldn't alter your DNA. This ain't onna those 'I'm 1/39th Native American' things, is it?"

He holds his hands a few inches apart. "It looked like a silver leech thing. And don't ask me about DNA, I don't know how it works or how it's supposed to work. I just know that it was implanted ol' Freddy and continued down the line."

"Delightful," he drawls with a faint lift of his eyebrows.

"And how do you know Ol' Freddy wasn't full'a shit? Arlo told more lies than a snakes heartbeat per minute."

"I said my great-great granddad, right? How long do you think he lived? I found this out from the alien robot. And my great-great uncle who'd been kept on ice by the robot."

[tinstar]

"Wait, how much of your family has had alien contact? And what are the chances that so much of your family get caught up by one guy or that you run into him?"

He was starting to think that Fitz's life was a series of very Unlikely Events, perpetually strung together.

"That's actually the part that makes the most sense, 'cause they're connected. Pretty big odds that it would be my family - though there were other families caught up too - but once that happened, the following alien encounters were from that."

[tinstar]

"Localized, sure but-" It just brought up like 15 more questions.

"Are you sure you and Norton aren't from a similar slice of spacetime?"

He tilts his head, as he thinks that's an odd way to phrase it. "When did I say we weren't? He knows people I do, so I assume it'd be pretty unlikely if we weren't."
