Malcolm x Raylan: Cowboy Surprise

Art was suspicious right off the bat when Raylan took a week off with the express note that his phone would be Out Of Order til the next Monday, but the Chief Marshal wasn't going to look gift horses in the mouth. Not when it suggested he'd have a few days of peace, until Raylan caved to turning his phone back on again. Still, he watched the younger Marshal walk out of the office and promised himself to check into the state of Harlan within 3 days to make sure that the place wasn't on fire. The smoke would reach him before he called, he was sure.
But Art didn't have much to worry about - Raylan had no plans on staying in the state for his vacation, beyond one day spent closing up Arlo's and securing it the best way he could before getting on a plane to New York City. He wanted to surprise Malcolm - it'd been near two months since they'd last seen each other and frankly, Raylan was tired of missing him. They'd called and texted, stayed in a fairly consistent, if odd houred, touch but it wasn't the same.
Once he landed, Raylan rented a car and navigated his way towards Malcolm's apartment, stopping to grab a bouquet of flowers. It was.. Extra, but Raylan didn't want to show up empty handed, just in case. Thirty minutes later, Malcolm's door buzzer was being hit, like Raylan was here to deliver something. Well, he was, but that was half the fun.

"Not particularly, no. But 'particularly religious' probably won't perform a wedding like ours, so maybe that's a good thing," he acknowledged. He tilted his head to look up at Raylan. "Art wasn't... uncomfortable about.... us?"
no subject
Raylan shook his head. "I think he's too surprised to be uncomfortable. Man's see me go through.." He took a deep breath. "Countless relationships. A lotta ups and downs. I dunno. Maybe he was and I didn't wanna notice." Raylan frowned gently. "He didn't look like it, anyway." He looked back down at Malcolm.
"Said you did good work, too."
no subject
He looked up at Raylan hopefully at his last remark.
"He did? ....Does that mean I can go with you again?"
He didn't mean tomorrow, but if they had an interesting case.... it would be nice to help. He liked working with Raylan. It had been their first point of connection.

"I think he sort of expects you to," he admitted, thinking back on the conversation. "Kinda phrased it in the present/future tense. They might make fun of you back at the NYPD, come in with too much of our dust out here on your shoes. If you can handle that."
He knew Malcolm could and he could guess that the teams gentle ribbing would be friendly like.

He leaned over and pressed a kiss to Raylan's neck before resting his head on his shoulder again.
"They don't know I'm leaving yet. I haven't talked to them about it."
no subject
But the mention him leaving his team simmered all that down a little.
"Do you think they'll take it okay? It's not like you're going to be gone forever, right?"
no subject
"I am going to be gone forever. I mean. Okay, we'll be spending time in New York during hurricane season and I hope I can still consult for them by phone if they need help the rest of the time, but... I'm not going to... just always be there anymore. It's weird thinking about leaving a place that actually wants me there. I've never done it before."
no subject
That's kinda how his mind put it together since there was no way he could fully believe that he'd get the majority of Malcolm's time. There were a lot of fingers that wanted into that particular pie.
"First time for everything. I'll take any blame needed though. Gladly." The sentiment came behind a shallow sip of bourbon.

"I don't have any intention of only living in Miami part time. I'm happy to do phone or Skype consultations but.... it would have to be really compelling to get me up there in person. Except for when we're already there, obviously." He looked at Raylan. "I mean it when I say that living with you is important to me. I'm looking forward to it. I want to work, obviously, but I want to come home to our bed at the end of the day. I'll find work that lets me do that."
no subject
His face softened. "Consider me corrected then. I just hope I don't have to fight any of them off to keep you in our bed at the end of the day," he teased gently. "I'd hate to beat up your friends."
no subject
hes gonna ask about the team taking it again but it feels weird after a touching moment and an ilu
"Nothing against Tulsa or Anchorage, I'll assume," he teased. They were the middle of nowhere, he got the point. Raylan leaned in, eyes on Malcolm's lips as he came in for a firm kiss. Words like that, that make him feel things, get kisses.
"I'll try not to kicked out to anywhere to remote, either way," he promised when it broke, slow to pull back. "I love you."
there's lots of time!
"Tell me you didn't think I was excited about the wedding because I'm just that into fancy outfits and hats," he teased. "Oooh, hats..." he realized, distracting himself for a second before shaking it off to continue. "I'm excited about the wedding because I'm excited about marrying you and then being with you for the rest of my life. That's the part I'm really excited about."
Re: there's lots of time!
"Aren't you?" he teased back. "The charm of me isn't gonna wear off after a few years?" He continued before Malcolm could answer with a faint lift of his eyebrows. "Jokes aside, I don't think you will. Or at least, I hope you won't. Are you gonna want to write your own vows?"
no subject
"I haven't given it a whole lot of thought, but I think it makes sense to. Nobody else's words can really... speak for us."
no subject
He brushed his thumb back and forth over Malcolm's shoulder again.
"You think your New York team will take you leavin' okay? Especially considerin' what you're leavin' for."
no subject
He thought about the question that followed. "What I'm leaving for... Happiness? Love? If someone is your friend, how could they hold that against you?" he asked.
no subject
I DID NOT GET THIS NOTIF AND I AM OFFENDED
"No. No. I was just going to wait until we had some idea of a date. I didn't want to just... hang it there indefinitely."
AHH. ME TOO. DW CANNOT KEEP THEM APART
"We'll have to finalize the purchases of both house and land, that takes a few months. That might be a good time to figure out when to tell them." He wondered how Martin would take it but didn't want to bring the man back up and ruin the good mood they'd fostered.
"Gives everyone a little room to get used to the idea. Also keeps them off my back later, it doesn't look like I'm stealin' you away from town forever." Though that statement came with a little smug smirk of his own. There was no stealing Malcolm Bright, but sweeping might have been a better word. That he could agree with.
no subject
"I'll have you know that nobody drags me anywhere," he said lightly. "I was never going to ghost them. They're just...going to have questions and I want to have answers. But I can't imagine it'll come as a whole lot of a surprise with the amount of time I'm spending out of town these days." He pressed a kiss to Raylan's shoulder. "Plus my mother has probably told Gil what you let slip at dinner."
no subject
"I think they'll be happy for you. Knowin' all that they do." He hoped, anyway.
no subject
"I hope that's how it'll go," he agreed. "When I was with the FBI, I didn't mean anything to anyone, except what I could do for them. ...I hope I'm not wrong thinking it's different in New York."
no subject
"It'll be okay," he continued with another nod of his head. "We'll be okay." Raylan pressed a kiss into Malcolm's hair.
"I never asked - when's your birthday?"
no subject
"...My birthday? It's in March," he said. "March 16th." He tilted his head up. "When's yours?"
Man the show is so inconsistent about his actual age.
PSon is super specific for the year, tho not the date.
