Well you're invited to the party that JD and I are throwing before New Years and I better see ya there.

Really? What kind of party is it? Just so I know what to wear.

Just a general Holiday themed party. Wear whatever makes you comfortable, I say - we've had our fair share of black tie and fancy events.

I'll be in jeans and a tshirt, so the bar is set real low.

[blondfragility]

Jeans. I can wear jeans.

( If jeans are good enough for Raylan, then they are definitely good enough for Ken. He wishes he had a cool jean jacket to wear with them! )

It's really weird people don't dress up here. We always go all out for parties back home.

That must mean you got plenty of parties to go to. Good for you. [It wasn't sardonic.]

And I think we all dress up now and then, but all in all it's only a couple of times a year. Parties are harder here, generally. What with all the.. stuff that happens. How're you takin' those, by the by? You doin' alright?

We had parties all the time. Sometimes just for no reason! The last one we all wore gold and white outfits.

( It's very fun and more people should dress up more often. )

Oh! I'm doing okay. Nothing super weird has happened to me.

Parties for no reason involve a lot of positive effort from someone; unfortunately, we're not exactly chalk full of folks made of sunshine. [He knew he sure as hell wasn't one.]

Really? You're onna the lucky ones. Never sure how people manage to stay out of it, otherwise I'd be right along beside ya.

I guess this last one didn't really count because I've never been younger. I've always just been this age. Physically. And before that it was sort of fun being a circus strongman because it was like playing pretend!

I'd argue that's almost unfair except for the joy of gettin' to skip the hell of puberty.

But a strongman ain't a bad gig. You pack folks into the seat with your act? Tell me there was at least one show where you lift two ladies on a bar.

It would have been a total waste if I didn't. But I can carry Barbie around on my shoulder so I guess I'm pretty strong already.

( A pause. )

Or am I? Do you think I was just strong because it was Barbieland and that's just how someone played with me?

Whose to say that isn't enough to make it reality, no matter the vehicle for it?

Maybe you only need to believe that you're strong to be strong. Like Magic - willing it into bein'.

That seems ... Weird. Maybe I'll just lift something and see.

You know, we got a guy on board here - a leprechaun. You know what that is?

[He had a point, he swears.]

Oh good, you know him. He's someone else powered by.. well, belief. Can't imagine that play is that far off from it.

And I think belief in yourself is a powerful thing, even for regular human type people.

[blondfragility]

So you...Just believe you're something and then you are?

[tinstar]

Why not? Like I said, ain't that what most magics are? Even the practical magic that I'm teachin' myself - do I need someone else to believe that I'm an amatur magician to make me one?

I ... Guess? I don't really know how being human works but if you say that's how it is then it must be right.

There is more nuance to the idea; you'll have to prove it to yourself, find out what the limits are but- Most of bein' a human being is motivation. What we feel like doin', becomin', what parts of ourselves we chose to build up and work at.
